Auditions for Dearly Departed

 

Producer Shirley Bolstad and director C. Evans Kirk announce auditions for ACCT's (Aldersgate Church Community Theater) fall production of Dearly Departed.  This comedy by David Bottrell and Jessie Jones follows the Turpin family's grief after the patriarch drops dead in the kitchen.  Can the family hold itself together long enough to get Big Daddy into the ground?  As funeral bills mount and the family, friends, and neighbors gather for the big event, there just maybe another funeral in the making!

 

Auditions will be held atAldersgate United Methodist Church, 1301 Collingwood Road, Alexandria VA 22308, on Sunday, August 24 and Monday, August 25, at 7:00 p.m.   The production will cast 10 to 15 performers ages 18 to near death to play the following parts:

 

Bud Turpin:  The "dearly departed."  (Will be played by the same actor playing either Ray-Bud or Junior)
Raynelle:  His wife. 

Ray-Bud: Their oldest son who has a drinking problem.

Lucille: Ray-Bud's wife who is trying very hard to have a baby.

Junior:  The middle child who is very unlucky in business.

Suzanne: Junior's wife who has discovered her husband's infidelity.

Delightful:  The only daughter...a mistake with an "eating" disorder.

Marguerite:  Bud's sister...The most religious woman below the Mason-Dixon Line!

Royce:  Marguerite's welfare son, but at least he's not in jail like his brother!

Reverend Hooker:  The local minister.

Juanita:  A cousin by marriage who only things she's happy!

 

Other roles that may be cast separately or may be played by one of the above characters:

Norval:  A very, very old man.

Veda:  His wife.

Nadine:  An unwed mother of too many kids to count!

Clyde:  The owner of the garage where Ray-Bud works.

The Joy of Life Singers:  The local church chorus

 

Auditions will be cold readings from the script.  A monologue will be given to all auditinees to demonstrate the required southern accent.  Come dressed to move for a simple line dance audition.  The production will run weekends from October 17 to November 1.  Please bring a list of all conflicts from August 26 to November 2 to the auditions.  For more information, please contact the director at:     c__evans_kirk@hotmail.com.
